Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard to the capital, Washington, DC. He has taken control of the city’s police force and deployed security guards to make the city crime-free and homeless-free.

Trump deployed 800 National Guardsmen on Monday. He also said that the city will be completely crime-free. Mayor Muriel Bowser denied that crime had increased in the city, saying that last year was the lowest crime rate in 30 years.

Speaking at a press conference, Trump said, “I am going to make this announcement to make our capital city crime-free. This is Disco Freedom Day. I want to take it back to how it was.”

Trump has also accused DC of being taken over by criminal gangs. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, homicides decreased by 32 percent from 2023 to 2024. That number is the lowest since 2019. This year, it has also decreased by 12 percent.
