Cambodia and Thailand agree to ceasefire

Margadarsan News

Kathmandu. Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to a ceasefire after days of border clashes. On Sunday, leaders from both sides issued a statement announcing the ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump also said that the ceasefire had been reached. Earlier this week, President Trump said that he had met with leaders from both sides and initiated a ceasefire.

He had warned of trade sanctions against countries that would join the war if the border clashes continued.

Earlier this month, Trump had threatened to impose a 36 percent tariff on American goods entering Thailand and Cambodia, effective August 1.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a statement on Sunday morning, saying that his country was ready for a ceasefire and thanked US President Trump for his efforts.

He said that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who leads ASEAN, had also made efforts for this. (Agency)
