Kathmandu. The CPN (UML) is going to reduce the number of office bearers to 19. The discussion on the proposal to amend the statute in the secretariat meeting that lasted more than 10 hours on Thursday was about removing this provision.
Similarly, the UML is going to remove the 70-year age limit and the two-term provision previously provided in the statute.
According to UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, it has been proposed to remove the two-term and 70-year age limit or not and to have a 15-member office bearer and a 25-member standing committee.
The meeting has decided that the Central Committee will have 251 members and one-third of them will be Politburo members. Leader Gyawali has clarified that no new representatives will be allowed in the statutory general convention and that new invitees will participate as organizers.
UML has 19 current office bearers
The NCP-UML had decided on 19-member office bearers from the 10th general convention held in Mangsir, 2078. There were 19 office bearers including President KP Sharma Oli.
The general convention had decided on the office bearers as President 1, Senior Vice President 1, Vice President 6, General Secretary 1, Deputy General Secretary 3 and 7 secretaries.
The general convention had elected KP Sharma Oli as President, Ishwor Pokharel as Senior Vice President and Vice Presidents Yubaraj Gyawali, Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Surendra Pandey, Ram Bahadur Thapa (Badal), Bishnu Poudel and Subash Chandra Nembang (recently deceased).
Shankar Pokharel was elected as General Secretary. Pradeep Gyawali, Prithvi Subba Gurung and Bishnu Rimal were elected as three Deputy General Secretaries.
Meanwhile, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi (currently in jail), Raghubir Mahaseth, Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Lekhraj Bhatta, Yogesh Bhattarai, Gokarna Bista and Padma Aryal were elected as seven secretaries.
