Kathmandu. Today marks the 212th birth anniversary of the national poet Bhanubhakta Acharya. On this occasion, various programs are being organized in various places in the country and abroad to celebrate Bhanubhakta’s birth anniversary. Bhanubhakta was born on Asad 29, 1871 BS in Chundiramgha village of Tanahun. Acharya started creating literature inspired by the advice given by a grasshopper, ‘After birth, one should earn a name by doing good deeds’. He translated the Ramayana written in Sanskrit into Nepali. The Ramayana written by the national poet Acharya is still recited in Nepali homes with a melodious melody.
Experts argue that Bhanubhakta unified Nepal, which was geographically unified by Prithvi Narayan Shah, through language, literature and culture. Bhanubhakta’s works including ‘Badhushiksha’, ‘Prashnottari’, ‘Bhaktamala’, ‘Ramgeeta’ are popular. Bhanubhakta’s works with linguistic ease have contributed to the development of reading and culture in Nepali society and the development of cultural, religious, social and moral awareness.
Acharya, the first poet who was imprisoned for failing to settle the Kumari Chowk case, was a staunch opponent of the procrastination in government offices and ‘futurism’ and wrote in his poem against tomorrow – ‘If you say tomorrow, all the houses will be packed in a bag today’. Bhanubhakta has a historical contribution in awakening Nepali ethnic unity, national identity and Nepali cultural awareness and strengthening national culture.
On this occasion, it is said that a program will be held to garland the statue of national icon Bhanubhakta located in front of Ranipokhari in Kathmandu this (Sunday) morning. Similarly, his birth anniversary is being celebrated by reciting poems and remembering him through various other programs. He passed away in Asoj 1925 BS.
In the northeastern states of India, the birth anniversary of the first Nepali language poet Bhanubhakta Acharya is celebrated as a special festival by the Nepali speakers there. Wherever there are Nepali speakers, Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated as a special festival. Similarly, the Adikavi Bhanubhakta Janmasthal Vikas Samiti located in Bhanu Municipality-4, Tanahun is celebrating Bhanu Jayanti as a week-long program. Similarly, his birthplace, Chundiramgha, is being celebrated for three days with various programs. On this occasion, organizations working in the fields of language, literature and culture are celebrating Bhanu Jayanti by organizing various programs today.
On the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti, President Ram Chandra Poudel has called upon the entire Nepali language-speaking community to dedicate themselves to the protection and promotion of their respective mother tongues. Issuing a message on the birth anniversary of the first poet Bhanubhakta, President Poudel has laid special emphasis on the need to respect and protect other mother tongues along with the progress of the Nepali language. His message has expressed that all Nepalis should unite in respect, love and protection of the Nepali language and culture. On this occasion, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other party leaders have also issued messages.
