Flood causes Rs 1.4 billion damage to Kalungkhola Hydropower Project

Baglung. The flood that occurred on Tuesday night due to incessant rains has caused damage worth about Rs 1.4 billion in Paiyunthanthap, Jaimini Municipality-9, Baglung.

The flood that occurred in the Kalungkhola, which flows through Paiyunthanthap-9, has completely damaged the Kalungkhola Hydropower Project.

Jaimini Municipality Deputy Mayor Harihar Sharma said that the damage to the hydropower project amounted to about Rs 20 million.

122 households in the area have been forced to live in darkness due to the damage to the project. The flood has washed away a bridge built at a cost of Rs 3.5 million in the same area alone. It has also damaged the ‘transformer’ of the central electricity transmission line.

Similarly, the cultivable land in the area has been turned into a swamp. Deputy Chief Sharma said that the fields that produce 800 to 1,000 muri rice per year have been turned into a wasteland. Due to the flood, six houses are at high risk of landslides, while five houses in Theule are at risk. Similarly, two sheds have been completely damaged.

The flood has also blocked the road leading to Bareng via Kushmisera-Paiyuthanthap-Rangkhani. 10 irrigation canals in that area have been damaged. Deputy Chief Sharma said that the damage is estimated to be around Rs 1.4 billion after assessing various damages. (RSS)
