Kathmandu – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, held separate discussions this morning with Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) acting president DP Aryal and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) president Rajendra Lingden regarding the ongoing obstruction in parliament.
During a meeting at his office in Baneshwor, Speaker Ghimire told Aryal that due to constitutional obligations, it is necessary to proceed with discussions on the national budget. He urged Aryal to consider changing the nature of the obstruction.
The Speaker also emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity and decorum of the parliament. In response, Aryal reiterated his party’s commitment to maintaining parliamentary decorum but made it clear that the obstruction would continue.
In a morning meeting with chief whips, concerns were raised over conduct in last Friday’s parliamentary session, which was deemed inconsistent with parliamentary norms.
Speaker Ghimire also spoke to RPP president Rajendra Lingden by telephone, requesting his understanding of the constitutional necessity to move forward and urging him to help lift the obstruction. He called on Lingden to present his party’s concerns within the parliament and to assist in creating an environment conducive to resuming proceedings.
