Kathmandu – CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has accused monarchists of being anti-people and emphasized that the entire party must stand united against any activities opposing the democratic republican system.
Speaking at a meeting of officials from the party’s sister organizations, held to prepare for the public demonstration scheduled for Jestha 15 (Republic Day), Pokharel said, “All activities against the democratic republic are, in essence, against the sovereignty of the people—thus, against the people themselves. The entire party cadre must actively engage in raising awareness among the general public about this.”
He stated that Republic Day is a celebration of the people, and therefore, the party plans to mark it as a special occasion.
The 52nd meeting of the party secretariat, held on Sunday, decided to celebrate Republic Day on Jestha 15 across the country as a national festival.
In the case of the Kathmandu Valley, CPN-UML has decided to organize special programs with cultural processions under the leadership of valley-level party committees and affiliated organizations.
On the same day, monarchist groups are set to launch demonstrations demanding the restoration of the monarchy, the re-establishment of a Hindu nation, and the abolition of federalism.
