Kathmandu – The ruling Nepali Congress has concluded that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak does not need to resign over the visit visa controversy. This conclusion was reached during a party officials’ meeting held this morning, even as some party leaders were demanding Lekhak’s resignation.
Following the meeting held at Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha, one official stated, “The allegations against the Home Minister are false. There is no reason for him to resign based on such accusations.”
The official further explained that the Home Minister would clarify the raid conducted by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) at the Department of Immigration and subsequent developments, both inside and outside Parliament.
Recently, leaders from the opposing faction, including Shekhar Koirala, have been strongly criticizing the government and party leadership. They had also called for the Home Minister’s resignation following questions raised over the visit visa issue.
Leaders such as Shekhar Koirala, Rajendra Bajgain, and Sunil Sharma reportedly faced criticism during the Congress meeting for demanding the Home Minister’s resignation without fully understanding the situation. According to a party official, now that the leaders have been briefed on the facts, such remarks are unlikely to continue.
During the meeting, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak provided a detailed explanation of the issue, asserting that he had no involvement in the matter. He also stated that there would be a fair investigation and appropriate action against those involved in the visit visa controversy.
