The district convention was inaugurated on Baisakh 20 (May 2) by UML central vice-chair Ishwar Pokharel. Nominations for the election were registered on Baisakh 22 (May 4). However, disputes arose over the publication of the final list of candidates. Due to tensions and repeated clashes between the two factions, including physical altercations that left five people injured on Baisakh 23 (May 5), voting was postponed.
A total of 628 representatives participated in the voting to elect a 135-member district working committee.
