Kathmandu. The Legislative Management Committee under the National Assembly could not decide on the mandatory retirement age limit proposed in the Federal Civil Service Bill. The House of Representatives has passed the act to make mandatory retirement at the age of 58 in the first year of its implementation, 59 in the second year, and 60 in the following year.
In the committee meeting held on Sunday, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Bhagwati Neupane proposed to start implementation from the age of 59 and increase it to 60, but no consensus could be reached on it. She said that it seemed appropriate to start retirement from the age of 59 due to technical reasons. ‘It is only due to technical difficulties, it was not brought for any specific person. I humbly say that we should accept this proposal with pleasure,’ she said.
Some lawmakers in the committee expressed dissatisfaction, saying that an agreement had been reached for personal gain.
Ministry Joint Secretary Meera Acharya pointed out the need to start the retirement age from 59, pointing out the impact on the Organization and Management (ONM) process and post-filling.
Committee Chairperson Tulsa Kumari Dahal said that the ministry was trying to reconsider this section with the aim of amending it as it would be technically difficult.
A meeting of the Legislative Management Committee is scheduled to be held today to discuss this issue further. The meeting is scheduled to discuss the ‘Draft Report of the Federal Civil Service Bill, 2080’. The meeting will be held at 11:30 am. (RSS)
