Kathmandu. Despite the fact that various universities and educational institutions are operating within the country for higher education, a large amount of money has been sent abroad.

According to the details of the last fiscal year 2081/82 released by the Nepal Rastra Bank, Rs 138 billion 480 million has been sent abroad for education alone. The previous year, Rs 125 billion 130 million was sent abroad for educational activities.

According to the central bank, travel expenditure under the service account has increased by 18.1 percent to Rs 223 billion 720 million. The previous year, travel expenditure was Rs 189 billion 430 million.

In the fiscal year 2081/82, net service income was in deficit by Rs 90 billion 940 million. The previous year, net service income was in deficit by Rs 55 billion 860 million.

In the review year, travel income under the service account increased by 7.7 percent to Rs 88 billion 660 million. The previous year, such income was Rs 82 billion 330 million. (RSS)
