Kathmandu \u2013 Police intervened in a royalist demonstration held today at Narayanchaur. The rally, which was marching toward Baluwatar, was stopped by police. However, when the procession forcefully tried to move ahead under the leadership of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-Nepal) Chairman Kamal Thapa, police arrested him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thapa, a former Home Minister, was dragged and forcefully pushed into a police van. Following this, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden demanded Thapa\u2019s immediate and respectful release. Otherwise, he warned, Kathmandu would be shut down starting tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the protesters after Thapa\u2019s arrest, Lingden declared, \u201cWe will now call our supporters from all over the country. The real battle begins tomorrow. This time, we won\u2019t gather in one place\u2014we\u2019ll come out from 50 different places. Let\u2019s see how they try to stop us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lingden also warned the government not to mistake their restraint for weakness, adding that if Thapa is not released respectfully and immediately, a complete shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley will begin from tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RPP, RPP-Nepal, and other royalist groups have been staging continuous protests in Kathmandu since Jestha 15 (May 28), demanding the restoration of the monarchy and a Hindu state. They have claimed that this movement will be decisive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
