Kavrepalanchok. Residents of two wards of Bhumlu rural municipality in Kavrepalanchok have received land titles for their land after 50 years. Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Balram Adhikari started the distribution of land titles on Tuesday.

Since 2032 BS, residents of the current two wards of the rural municipality (then Bhumlu and Phalante VDCs) have been in the process of obtaining land titles. In the initial phase, land titles have been distributed to 431 landowners of Wards No. 7 and 8 of Bhumlu rural municipality. On Tuesday, the office informed that land ownership certificates were distributed to 185 landowners of Ward No. 7 and 246 landowners of Ward No. 8.

For this, the Survey Office Kavrepalanchok had been working with a survey team at the local level since 25 Jestha 2071. On the initiative of Kavrepalanchok MP and then Minister Gokul Baskota, a field office was opened in Bhumlu Rural Municipality on 20 Mangsir 2076.

According to the office, 450 land titles have been prepared for two wards so far, while approximately the same number are yet to be investigated and prepared. Office Chief Ashok Kumar Bhusal informed that 300 land titles need to be prepared for ward no. 7 and 600 land titles need to be prepared for ward no. 8.

The cultivable land called ‘Tar’, which has been earning since the time of the former Pipaltar VDC, was included in both Bhumlutar and Phalante VDCs when Pipaltar VDC was split. At that time, a dispute arose after both VDCs claimed the cultivable land. In 2032, the work could not be done due to a dispute between the team that went to survey and the leadership of the two VDCs. Since the work could not be done in 2035 as well, the locals were not able to get the land titles. (RSS)
