Kathmandu. The Nepal Police has recently made public an incident that shows that the trend of fraud by misusing social media is growing.
It has also warned against opening any link on social media. According to the Nepal Police, fraud has been found to have been committed in the name of providing information about stock market transactions.
Fraud has been committed by showing attractive advertisements on social media including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and others to download an app called Nepse AI. It has been found that such apps are downloaded by spreading misleading information such as how to analyze the stock market through AI and earn maximum profits, and after installing the app, the entire amount in the account is transferred elsewhere in a moment.
Police have said that they are receiving information and complaints that after downloading such apps, all data on the digital device is deleted and evidence is destroyed. The police have requested the public not to open or download any unknown links and apps including Nepse AI due to misleading temptation.
According to the police, John Doe (code name) downloaded an app called Nepse AI to analyze the stock market from an advertisement seen on the social network Facebook. As soon as the app was installed on the mobile, the remote session in the app appeared on his mobile screen, which seemed to be closed for some time. In the process, Rs. 28 lakh 61 thousand in his various bank accounts were transferred to other accounts. Similarly, all the data and apps on his mobile were also deleted. According to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, such complaints have been received in the past too, and a new form of fraud has emerged in the latest complaint.
The Cyber Bureau has also given some suggestions to avoid such activities. To make social networks secure, it is advisable to use a double security code or use SMS. Similarly, the password should be changed periodically.
Do not give any information about your digital device to strangers and install apps only from official sources. Similarly, the Cyber Bureau has urged people to report such incidents to the concerned bank, financial institution, and the nearest police office. (RSS)
