Make prosperity a reality: Former President Bhandari

Kathmandu : Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said prosperity of the nation should be translated into reality rather than limiting it to an ambition.     

The former Head of the State emphasized the need for boosting the national capital, restructuring and reviving sick industries, and developing tourism by enhancing natural and cultural heritages. The domestic production like Palpali karuwa (urn), Bhojpure khukuri and others should be branded even for the international market, she said. Proper policies are required to promote youth entrepreneurship and discourage labour migration, Bhandari reminded.     

Speaking at an economic event ‘Rising Nepal Summit’ held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the nepalkhabar.com media in the federal capital on Thursday, former President Bhandari mentioned that prosperity is not just for few individuals to reap profits but should be a source of social justice, equality, and belief to all.     

Addressing the same event, the Prime Minister’s economic advisor and former finance minister Dr Yubraj Khatiwada claimed that absolute poverty had significantly decreased with national poverty less than 4 percent. The economy is also posting 4 to 5 percent growth, indicating gradual improvement, he added.     President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, said numerous legal reforms were in place to create investment friendly environment in Nepal lately. He further shared that FNCCI and other business entities had established a fund of Rs 10 billion for mobilizing domestic capital, which he argued, would energize the national economy.(RSS)
